Another Chicago artist I enjoy is Pamela Johnson. I’ve never meet her but I feel Pamela Johnson has redefined the still life with her new work, large-scale paintings of junk food (The American Still Life Series) and smaller paintings of garbage, addressing consumerism and the trash our insatiable hunger leaves in its wake. People read these paintings as nostalgic at times, but they are incredibly politically charged, especially as we watch our resources dwindle and our landfills overflow.
